M

atilda woke the next morning in her own bed. And in her nightgown? Merde, she had trusted Mahadeo, and he undressed her. Ugh, fucking alphas and their high and mighty attitudes. Well, he was going to get a piece of her mind. She may be an omega, but she dealt with enough assholery. If he wanted a chance to court her, well… Just well.

Throwing on a pair of jeans and a cute top, she took care of her morning business still fuming at the inappropriate alpha. After a thin layer of makeup, she headed out. “Where is Mahadeo staying?” she asked the first person she came across, which happened to be Edith.

“Alpha Mahadeo is staying in the west wing with the other alphas, madam, third door on the left,” she replied.

“Thank you, Edith.”

She hurried down the hallway and to the west wing, not stopping until she was at the door Edith indicated. She banged on the door. When it wasn’t answered right away, she banged again, even knowing that she hadn’t given the alpha enough time to come to the door the first time.

The door popped open; another Egyptian man appeared. He was huge, six foot something. A tanned Adonis really.

“Hello. You must be the princess,” he said in the smoothest voice ever.

She nodded slightly, entranced by the man. Her anger abated some.

“I’m Azabi, Mahadeo’s man servant.”

“Nice to meet you,” she replied.

Over his shoulder she saw the man she was here for, and her anger spiked back to where it had been. “You,” she said pushing past his man servant. “You had no right.” Her finger stabbed into the man’s chest.

He smirked, “No right to do what, Lapa?” There was that endearment. The same one Kelsey used.

“Don’t call me that,” she complained softly.

“Okay, I apologize. What is it that I had no right to do?” he asked.

“You took me back to my room last night and I woke up in my nightgown.”

He smiled knowingly, and took her hand, “Ah. I promise you princess, your virtue is intact. When I arrived at your door one of your handmaidens was there. I placed you on the bed and left. She must have changed you into your gown.”

Her anger deflated. She should have thought of that. Of course, Mahadeo wouldn’t do something like that, “oh.”

“While you’re here, can I tell you a secret?”

Matilda nodded.

“Come, let’s sit. This is definitely sitting down news.”

Matilda followed Mahadeo to the love seat in his room. The guest rooms were smaller than hers, so there was only room for one small couch instead of an entire living area.

“Do you know the stories of the Djinn?”

Matilda wasn’t sure where Mahadeo was going with this, “Those are just old myths.”

“They’re not just myths,” his manservant said.

Matilda didn’t understand why his servant was paying attention to their conversation, but it didn’t seem private, so she let it slide.

“Well then they must be extinct, right? I mean no one’s seen one in millennia, that I know of. If they are real.”

“That is true, but I assure you they are very real,” Azabi claimed.
